About
Mark Sanislo

Father Robert J. Fox Blessing Artists Mark Sanislo Hands

Mark Sanislo, a resident of Coon Rapids, Minnesota is an accomplished representational artist working in oil and pastel medium.  Classically trained, his work ranges in style from high realism to impressionism.  His style is evocative of some of the great master painters of the Renaissance.

Mark’s strength is particularly evident in his ability to capture on canvas the emotion and essence of the human spirit.  Having been inspired by His Holiness Pope John Paul II Apostolic Letter to Artists, Mark has focused his talent upon religious artwork.  Before moving in this direction Mark has been best known as a portrait artist.

In the picture, Mark receives a blessing of his hands from Father Robert J. Fox.  The religious art in the background is an Icon of the Union of East and West, and was on a book cover for Mary : Light from the East - Miracles of Our Lady of Soufanieh written by Fr. Fox.

Notable portraits in Mark’s portfolio include Gerald Raunhorst; founder of Opus Corporation and Glen Taylor of Minnesota Timberwolves, among others.  Currently exhibited at the Chancery of the St. Paul/Minneapolis Archdiocese are charcoals of Archbishop John Ireland, John Roach, and Archbishop Harry Flynn.  His most beloved portrait is that of the revered Fr. Bernard Reiser, founder of Epiphany Catholic Church of Coon Rapids.

Mark’s many recent commissions include organizations such as the World Apostolate of Fatima, Total Life Care Centers, The Fatima Family Apostolate, and many local parishes in the Twin City Metropolitan area.  A portrait of Mother Angelica, the foundress of the Catholic Television network, EWTN is displayed at her monastery in Alabama.

Mark is famous for his 8 feet by 20-foot mural of the Last Supper that had been featured in an April 2002 edition of the Catholic Spirit.   The mural is on a conference room wall and it's a depiction from the Leonard Da Vinci's Last Supper original, except the apostles on the left are friends of the artist and Jesus is looking out to  us.

His art has been featured on several magazine covers as well.  Presently he is reproducing many of his works for the marketplace in a variety of formats.  These subjects include; John Paul II, Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Saint Padre Pio, and The Last Supper.

Galleries that have exhibited Marks’ work include; Gaviidae Common, Minneapolis, MN, Quarters Harbor, Harbor Springs, Michigan, Tamarack Gallery, Stillwater, MN, The Artist Corner, Mackinac Island, Michigan, Baker Center Minneapolis, MN.

Mark studied graphic design at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and St. Cloud State University.  Mark underwent accelerated training in classical realism at the Atelier Lack School of Fine Art, Minneapolis, MN.  Mark routinely focuses and refines his skills by participating in workshops and seminars conducted by contemporary masters in portraiture and painting.

Mark is married with 6 children and he is an active member of Epiphany Catholic Church in Coon Rapids, MN
